Bikes were the main mode of transport (aside from public buses) for Qingdao ‘lao bai xing’ circa 1990’s.
One reason cited by locals for why the bicycle fell out of favor in Qingdao is the hilly terrain. Note the third cyclist on an otherwise empty Ningxia Lu pushing his bike in the first photo below.
