The Qingdao Library has a nice selection of foreign language (mostly English, Korean and Japanese) textbooks, novels, and reference books, along with plenty of imported magazines and newspapers in the Foreign Language Reading Room, which is also a great quiet study room. To add a Qingdao Library card to your wallet, head over to 109 Yanji Lu (just east of Shandong Lu near the second Carrefour and the new CBD Wanda Jusco) with your ID/passport and apply at the front desk. The card itself is free but you will need to pay a deposit of 80 yuan for the privilege to check out Chinese language books; 160 yuan for the right to borrow both Chinese and foreign languages books; and 30 yuan for a children’s card (under 16 years old), which only can be used for books from the Children Reading Room. Foreign language book checkout is limited to 2 books per 30 days. You may renew books once via internet or telephone (see details below).
