Travel time between Shandong province’s capital Jinan and Qingdao will be just 1 hour by high speed rail when the new line is completed some time around the end of 2018. Wikipedia says “Jinan is often called the “Spring City” for its famous 72 artesian springs”. The German colonizers in Shandong that built up Qingdao also left behind some buildings in Jinan. If you are in Qingdao and want to check them out, your travel time just got a lot shorter. Unfortunately the old railway station in Jinan, like the original Qingdao station, did not make it past the wrecking crew. Check out the photos below of Jinan’s old architecture.
