QINGDAO(nese) is now officially out of BETA mode and fully functional with new features such as member profiles, groups, forums, private messaging between members, and more to come in the future. After going live on November 1, 2009, our team spent the past 7 months refining the site and now it is an up to minute platform for social interaction combined with a great source of English language information on events and news about Qingdao. Sign Up today via the registration page to start taking full advantage of the new site features.
After registration and email verification, members can create a personal profile with an avatar that is associated with the account throughout the site, including on comments (please note that comments are only open to registered members). Profiles can also contain information about the member such as a personal introduction and reason for being in Qingdao. Members can indicate the amount of time spent in Qingdao, relationship status, and more. Updates and revisions to profiles can be made on the member account profile page.
Check out Groups, such as Live Music in Qingdao, where people can discuss the latest developments in the burgeoning music scene, including performances of Chinese and international artists. There’s groups on cars, Qingdao history, art, and more. Interested in other subjects? Members can start a group that is either public or private, for everyone or just for your friends. Create a group on any topic here.
Members can also discuss forum topics with groups, such as the question “What kind of car would you buy in Qingdao?” in the group Cars in Qingdao. Forum topics should be discussed within the relevant group where the thread was begun. See the topic General Questions About Using the Social Networking Portion of QINGDAO(nese) in the group called Help!
Private messaging between members allows people in the community to communicate within the site. It’s easy to send a message, just go to the member’s profile page and click send private message to be taken to a compose message page. Then designate the member name, type in your message, and click send message. Another new feature allows members to add friends. Adding friends is a way to build your social network in Qingdao. To add a friend, visit a member’s profile page or browse through the member directory and then click the button that says Add Friend. The member should accept your friendship request before this member appears in your Friends list. The notifications for friend requests and messages in your inbox are to be found along the top of the browser window in a light gray band where it says QINGDAO(nese), My Account, and Notifications.
