Just started a new group on Teaching in Qingdao. It’s a place for teachers and students to talk about English and Mandarin instruction here, whether in a private school, a college, company, home etc..

HI Mark, Zebra Stripe can help set up a program with a qualified instructor if you are interested. Universities are also interesting experiences and it’s usually about what you put in and what you get out. Welcome back to Qingdao, drop by and visit us anytime if you need help with study and life here.

My girlfriend and I are moving to Qingdao in late August and hope to find work teaching English. We both are college educated recent graduates from the US. Do you have any advice or tips? Thanks in advance!

Well, it’s a little late to get a placement in a private school or public university, but you never know, you might be able to get something lined up before you arrive. Have you contacted any potential employers here in Qingdao? It all depends on what kind of schedule you want, and if you want to freelance or have a steady situation. What kind of visa have you applied for? How long do you plan to stay? What kind of accommodation are you looking for? Loads more questions for further info, but basically what you should decide is what you are looking to get out of this, and how much money you’re bringing with you to get set up.

We have just begun our job hunt and so have not yet contacted any employers. We would like to get a steady situation with regular weekly hours. We are currently applying for tourist visas but plan on getting Z visas once we find jobs. We plan on staying for at least a year and are not very fussy about our accommodation. I have been saving and will have plenty of money to get set up and live off of for a few months. Any help or advice is much appreciated.
