Hi there everyone
Tell me what is the Internet service provider you use in Qingdao. ? I need to know if Im going to email friends back home in south africa.
If my place I am staying has a ethernet cable , do I need some other gadget to plug in ? Do you have a usb or system I could plug into my laptop.
thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

I use China Unicom. any ISP (internet service provider) in China is generally quite slow when trying to access websites outside of China, regardless of the speed you are paying for, but Unicom is as good as any. where you live will have an impact on this decision however, as different buildings have different ISPs available. If Unicom is unavailable, Telecom is a possible alternative. you will have to call the ISP once you have your address and get them to check to see if their service is available for you.
If you are subscribing to ADSL(which is quite common) you may have to use an external modem (a small box), which will act as an intermediary between your phone jack and computer. This will be provided by the service provider.
Hi Morgan. Thank you for your reply. I am staying in Chengyang peoples hospital for 33days only. I dont think I will need ADSL line though. Here in South Africa we have a 3gmtn webmail usb stick we just plug in. Do you have these there ? I have 1gig on mine. What is your internet server there ?
We have google here, but I hear its not used there. Are you on Facebook ?
Its hard to know what another country has when you travelling . hope to hear from you soon then and thank you
yes, you can get a wireless 3g USB card in China. i bought mine at China Unicom. I think it is a few hundred CNY to purchase and get some money on the card, then you can put something like 50 or 100rmb on the card each month to keep it going. it’s basically a reloadable card. it will work in Chengyang and should be bast enough for basic browsing and email.
i was on facebook but took myself off simply because i didn’t like it. with some perseverance and a good VPN (Virtual Private Network) or Proxy, accessing it is quite easy. a little internet research should yield results.
