May 4th is a special date in Chinese history. It refers to the May 4th movement of 1919 that was a response to events concerning Qingdao and Shandong after WW1.

May 4th Square (Wusi Guangchang/五四广场) is the centerpiece of downtown Qingdao.

It is located across from the city government building and stretches south to the coast at Fushan Bay. The square is divided into two parts by Donghai Lu.

At the southern end of May 4th Square is the red sculpture called May Wind that is the modern symbol of Qingdao.

May 4th Square is also called Wu Si Square, Wu Si Guangchang, 5.4 Square, or just Wu Si (五四).

May 4th Square is on the coast between Music Square and the Olympic Sailing Center.
