Ash at China Car Times writes about a Beijing driver who changed his license plate to include numbers that are considered more auspicious. The driver ”relied on good old fashioned toothpaste to turn two 11’s into a 77, the bad news is that the Porsche driving was caught out by the Qingdao police force over in Jiaonan who thought his 77’s looked a little odd. They slapped him down with a 2200RMB fine and took six points from his license.”

Hey Steven, thanks for that info. I actually went to that place in January and rented a Citroen for 4 days. It cost me around 50 RMB per day (was a special promotion rate). Service is all in Chinese but overall good. A few things to keep in mind: – You need a Chinese license [...]

There’s a place on Yinchuan Xi Lu just past the elevated highway (near the Tv/Radio building on Ningxia) which is called China Car Rental. Their website is http://www.zuche.com and the toll free number is 400 616 6666. The website is all in Chinese but looks fairly easy to navigate with some basic language ability, or [...]

Ever wondered how much cars in China cost? How much you have to spend to get one of those Mianbao vans? Well, wonder no more. Here’s a site that I found where you can browse the cars on the market here. Cheapest I found was around 19.000 (for a new car that is!).
Happy browsing!

Hey Simon(ella)! Sounds like quite the happening there on QY Ex. Now I understand the green hair
. I was in Qingdao the other day and couldn’t believe the *&^%$#@# and cars over there. I think if I were going to buy a new car it would be one that you don’t need to park. [...] -

Does anyone of you know a place where I can rent a car? I have a local driving license so I don’t need a driver. I would like to rent a car over the national holiday and explore the area a bit.
Any help and suggestions is very appreciated!

Well I’ve put 155,000 km on my 2004 Buick Excelle… almost 6 years to the day! It’s still going strong, the closest I came to an accident was when some #@!*$%# dropped a truck tire on the fast lane of the Qin Yin expressway… at night! I hit it at 120 km/h flipping the car [...]

Do you know what the price point is compared to an Audi? I mean an Audi is an Audi, I would def take an Audi any day over almost any other car, that is if I even wanted a car in China which I don’t, yet haha.
There are many more Audi models and equipment levels than the Roewe, so it would be a difficult comparison. I’d take the new SGM Buick Regal over a Roewe. Seems there are less and less manual shift options in China though, and all the manual shifts are the low end equipment levels, as if wanting a manual shift was a financial decision. I know that doesn’t bother you though !

The Rover cars (Roewe, originally called Rong Wei) made by Shanghai Automotive (SAIC) have outsold their initial estimates by far. Those are the sleek black cars fast replacing the Audi as the choice of transport for a well off middle aged dude with money to spare. They look like nice cars… there’s a red one [...]
