      I’m guessing Carnegie’s in Zhonglian Plaza. That’s at the corner of Ningxia and Nanjing lu, if you can find the Banana Leaf (Thai) place under the highway, it’s right through the little alley shortcut next to the restaurant. Carnegie’s is across from a mini-mart. There’s a bunch of bars in that complex that might be doing something for 3-17.

      The Lennon bar on Zhuhai lu usually celebrates as well, the place is nearish to Crowne Plaza, it’s right at the gate of the Eastern Municipal Hospital’s back gate, also on Zhuhai lu.

      Freeman bar on Jiangxi Lu (near LPG) has Guinness as does Club New York right on Hong Kong road, aka Xianggang zhong lu.

    where’s the best craft brew in town? anyone been over to Diner on May 4th? Curious if they have decent beer. John and Ed from Strong Ale had some tasty stuff over at the DPRK Film Night last week….

    my mom she once brewing with grapes, it taste good. I also tried the cherry wine which one of my friends he brewing by himself. It was prett good.

    You can find some suppliers on Alibaba for hops and malt but usually the minimum order is larger than home brewer scale. Usually malt is sold in 50 kg bags and hops in 5 kg packages, but if you have a way to store all that stuff it’s not a bad option.

    A good resource for anyone who just wants to make small batches is to buy from Oktoberfest Brewery in Nanjing. They have everything you’ll need and will sell in smaller quantities. http://oktoberfest.taobao.com/

    Jiefei in Dalian has some extract kits but they’re pretty expensive. They also have some basic hombrew equipment. http://jiefeifood.gotoip3.com/Product.asp

    Thanks man, I’ll check it out. Not to sure where alibaba is; fairly new in town. If I can get my hands on some decent hops I could brew some good beers for all of us foreigners to enjoy. A nice English Pale, German Lager, whatever. Pi jiu hua makes sense, beer flower.

    Interesting hobby… Have you checked Taobao or Alibaba? I don’t know if this can be used for making beer but apparently hops is used in Chinese medicine as well and you can get it at many pharmacies.
