Jimo, a suburb of Qingdao, will be the future home of a car plant producing the VW Bora Electric Vehicles, according to reports by Gasgoo China Automotive News.
The factory will be under the banner of the joint venture of First Automobile Works (FAW) and Volkswagen in China also known as FAW-VW. The first cars are expected to roll off the line some time in 2018. The Bora EV, or BEV, will be an addition to FAW-VW’s offering of electric vehicles in China, with an all electric Golf also being made in China.
Since it is expected that the future of electric vehicle production will be in China, it’s good to see that Qingdao is poised to be a part of the supercharged effort to reduce Chinese car emissions.
