The 3rd China International Violin Competition will be in Qingdao from October 11 to 24, 2011. Qingdao’s affinity for the violin is reflected in its nickname Qin Dao (Instrument Isle/琴岛) – some even call it the home of the violin in China. The list of participants for this year’s competition includes violinists from Russia, Poland, UK, US, Canada, Korea, Japan, France, Germany, and China.
The opening ceremony is October 11 at 7 pm at the Qingdao Music Hall. Lots will be drawn to determine the next two weeks of competition. The first two rounds will be at the Music Hall, which is located in Old Town near Zhan Qiao pier at the corner of Zhejiang and Lanshan Lu. The Qingdao Grand Theatre hosts the final rounds and awards ceremony.
Rehearsals begin on October 12. Competition days are October 13, 14, 15, 18, and 19 at the Qingdao Music Hall and at the Qingdao Grand Theatre on October 22 and 23. The awards ceremony and prize winner concert will be held at the Grand Theatre on October 24 at 7.30 pm.
