十 Ren Xihai 8.17-8.31

十 (Ten/Shi) is an exhibition by photographer Ren Xihai on display at the Qingdao historical post office at 5 Anhui Lu (corner of Guangxi Lu, one block off the coast near Zhan Qiao Pier) from August 17 to 31, 2012.

The photos document the residential compound at 10 Qiu Xian Lu in Qingdao’s Old Town where the photographer was born and raised. The liyuan shown in the photos is no longer, having been completely demolished by 2008.

  1. I love those photos, that’s real good Qingdao, much better than New town, like Hk Rds

    • Yes, there is a certain charm to this old town, but you know, time and progress, and things get more comfortable, more livable. If only there was some way to keep the old buildings, which certainly required a degree of preservation awareness and ability that the city managers and residents previously lacked… Now that there is a historical register, things are protected more … unfortunately a lot of these liyuan compounds were not on the list, and so, went with the wind, dust to dust.
